The Book

 

The book „The Greeks’ Commercial Centers in Romania” appeared in 2008, having as support the results of a research project with the theme: “Routes and Junctions of Commerce and Culture in the Balkans. First route: The Greeks’ Commercial Centers in Romania. Enhancement and Promotion of Greeks’ Cultural Monumental Heritage”, (763 pages).


The book, revealing the architectural heritage connected to the Greek presence in Romania, is the result of the scientific cooperation between Romania and Greece and was printed with the support of Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace, Alpha Bank and Prefecture of Thessaloniki –Research and Development Centre of the Greek culture in the Black Sea (printed at the University Studio Press, Thessaloniki, edition in Greek language).


The research program began in 2005, at Mrs. Eleni G. Gavra’s initiative, Lecturer at the University of Western Macedonia – the Department of Balkan Studies of Florina. There were many scientists taking part at the project from different institutions from both countries: University of Western Macedonia, Aristotle’s University of Thessaloniki, University of Architecture „Ion Mincu” of Bucharest, Universitary College of Turnu Severin. The members of the research team were:  Eleni Gavra, Iakovos Michailidis, Peter Derer, Adrian Bălteanu, Ioana Lupoaie, Raluca Popa, Paula Scalcău, Octavia Stepan, Ciprian Suciu.
